HISTORY

Community Hospital Health Services Foundation (CHF) was incorporated in1986, in the State of Ohio, as a charitable, not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation, for the “promotion, direction, control, coordination and support” of The Community Hospital of Springfield, Ohio and its related health services. Over the years, several medical services, entities and joint ventures fell under the umbrella of CHF. As a result of the July 1, 2004 merger between The Community Hospital and Mercy Health System Western Ohio that resulted in a new corporation, Community Mercy Health Partners (CMHP), CHF took on a new structure and new role in healthcare in the greater Springfield OH community.

An important component of the Definitive Agreement among the parties that formed the new Community Mercy Health Partners (CMHP) was the promise to build in Springfield, Ohio, a state-of-the-art, new hospital to replace the existing Community Hospital and Mercy Medical Center facilities. The name of the new downtown hospital under construction is Springfield Regional Medical Center (SRMC). Today the old campuses of Mercy Medical Center and The Community Hospital operate as SRMC-High Street (inpatient) and Fountain Ave. (outpatient) campuses.

CHF has a dual role to play in the regional healthcare system of Clark and Champaign Counties, Ohio. It is both a provider of health services and a partner in CMHP.

OUR JOB AS A HEALTHCARE PROVIDER

The Reproductive Services Plan of the Definitive Agreement outlined the authorities and responsibilities of CHF to provide reproductive health services that cannot be provided by CMHP which operates under the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.

CHF staff, nurses, nurse manager and medical director provide quality, inpatient, reproductive services in the CHF operating room, delivery room and treatment room within Springfield Regional Medical Center, High Street campus. These services, delivered in a way that is convenient and seamless to the patient, are:

• Sterilizations secondary to another inpatient procedure such as a vaginal birth, cesarean section birth, or abdominal surgery;

• Primary sterilizations for high risk patients; and

• Contraception after a birth.

Outpatient primary sterilizations continue to be done in the Springfield Surgery Center, 2685 East High Street, Springfield, Ohio.

On the new Springfield Regional Medical Center downtown campus, CHF will own and operate its own three-story pavilion adjoining the hospital that will include operating rooms, pre- and post- operation areas, treatment rooms and administrative offices.

It is the intent of CHF that local people enjoy, at minimum, the same scope and quality of reproductive health services now and into the future as they enjoyed before the consolidation of non-sectarian Community Hospital with Mercy Medical Center.
